Winter Capsule Wardrobe: Classic Cozy Pieces You Need in Your Closet

January is the perfect time to refine your winter capsule wardrobe!

Happy New Year dazzling babes! I hope you’ve all had an amazing and healthy start to 2022.

I had plans to celebrate by going live over on the FindYourDazzle Facebook page but unfortunately, I’ve been recovering from COIVID. I’m thankful that aside from the extreme fatigue (I’m fully vaxxed) that it wasn’t too bad.

Since I couldn’t host the live event last week I’m going to push it back to this Thursday the 13th at 7 PM EST! Make sure to join the group so you don’t miss it. I’ll be giving away two gift cards to Asos!

Winter Capsule Wardrobe

At the beginning of the year, I always like to do a closet refresh. I go through all of my pieces and anything that doesn’t fit well or I no longer wear gets donated or sold. I just joined Mercari if you want to check out the pieces that I’m currently selling!

After I go through all of my pieces (shoes, accessories, and undies included) I like to assess and figure out what’s missing from y closet. I could go into all of the pieces that you might need in your wardrobe but since it’s winter we are focusing only on cold-weather pieces!

Plus, I have a whole capsule wardrobe series if you’re looking for something that pertains to all seasons!

I’ve created a winter capsule based on the pieces that I typically wear in the winter and the unpredictable weather in New Jersey (it was 60 degrees two days ago and now it’s 28). Of course, you may not need some items if you live in a warmer climate or you might need extra layering pieces if you live in a colder area.

The point of this post is to give you some ideas and a starting point as to how to build your winter capsule wardrobe.

Tops

All tops should be in shades of nude, white, or black. The point of a capsule is to make sure you have the basics for years to come. Nothing trendy or overly fancy here.

Cotton Long Sleeve Tee
Long Sleeve Turtleneck
Long Sleeve Bodysuit
White Button Down
Crewneck Sweater
Slouchy Oversized Sweater or any Cozy Sweater

Bottoms

For bottoms, I didn’t include any skirts except for an optional silk midi skirt. I was trying to think of what I personally tend to gravitate toward in the winter and it’s usually pants or jeans.

I also didn’t include a specific cut of pants or jeans. Go with a cut that you’re most comfortable wearing. For capsule wardrobe purposes I’d go with a straight leg or skinny cut. Just because I find these cuts easier to style and they’re classic.

Black Jeans
Black Dress Pants
Medium or Dark Wash Jeans
Faux Leather Leggings
Black Leggings
Fleece Lined Tights
Silk Midi Skirt (optional)

Outerwear

For outerwear, I like to have different options depending on where I’m going and the weather for that day. IMOP it’s a must to have at least one longer wool coat to wear with dressy outfits and a short puffer coat to wear for casual outings.

Long Wool Coat
Puffer Coat
Blazer

Long Line Cardigan

Shoes

The shoes listed below are the styles that you’ll see me wearing the most this time of year. I am a little bit of a shoe lover and wanted so much to include my snake print booties but technically they aren’t a necessary item (even though I wear them all the time). I did, however, include combat boots. I’ve actually been very surprised at how much I actually wear the white combat boots that I purchased years ago during the Nordstrom Sale.

Waterproof Boot
Ankle Boot
Sneaker

Combat Boot
Heels

OTK Boot (Optional)

Accessories

For accessories, I only included necessary winter pieces. If you want to see all of the accessories that are in my capsule wardrobe you can check out this post!

Gloves
Oversized Scarf
Beanie Hat

All of the pieces in this winter capsule wardrobe are meant to mix and match so the options are endless when it comes to the outfits that you can create. What’s an essential in your capsule wardrobe? Let us know in the comments below!
