If there is one blog type of blog post or video that I can’t get enough of it’s gotta be morning and nighttime routines! I just love learning about what people do to start and end the day because it gives me ideas on how I can craft better daily routines for myself. Since you all loved seeing my morning skincare routine on my Instagram Reels I figured I would do an entire blog post about the rest of my morning routine.
Please keep in mind that this is my ideal routine and not necessarily what I do each and every day. Some days I’m too tired to wake up early so I skip some steps. Other days well… I’m just too lazy. Routines should be something that helps you to stay productive, healthy, and happy. Not cause extra stress or be something that you beat yourself up about if you skip a step or two. Read on for my morning routine!
My Morning Routine
The first thing I do every morning is wash up. This includes brushing my teeth, washing my face, and um well using the bathroom. I have been using natural toothpaste for about five years now and will never go back to conventional brands! I was experiencing breakouts near my mouth and read that conventional toothpaste can actually cause breakouts. My current natural toothpaste is by Grin, a natural oral care company from New Zealand. The company was nice enough to send me some products to try out and gave me the coupon code FINDYOURDAZZLE for 10% off to share with you if you’d like to try it out! #affiliate
After that, I wash my face with a gentle cleanser to remove all of the skincare products from the night before. I do this because I’ve heard if you workout with the skincare products still on from the night before it can actually cause breakouts when you start to sweat! I do not apply any moisturizer as I prefer to workout with a completely bare face.
Water / Pre-workout supplement
It’s time to prep for my workout. I grab a large glass of water and fill up my shaker with my pre-workout supplement. I’ve read that taking a pre-workout supplement helps you to retain muscle and gives you a boost of energy. I’ve been using the RSP Naturals BCAAS in pineapple-coconut over the past few months and it tastes so good. I try to stay away from most artificial ingredients and sucralose. This is one of the only brands that I could find that fit my needs at a reasonable price. I sip on my pre-workout before, during, and after my workout.
Change into workout gear
Now it’s time to get on my workout gear. I prefer to wear leggings as I find that wearing shorts causes my thighs to rub together #thinkthighproblems! Since I workout at home I don’t buy activewear too often and usually find inexpensive pieces at TJMaxx or Target. I have been wanting to upgrade a few of my pieces though as I kinda want to get into the fun prints that you can find in some online shops like Fabletics and Stronger.
Now for the workout. My workouts are different each day but I always make sure to get one in even if it’s just stretching or taking a walk. For the past three years, I have been following the workouts by Zuzka Light in her Zgym. I like that most of the workouts can be done under an hour but they are still intense.
I’m currently following the advanced schedule but they have workouts for beginners as well as low impact options. I can honestly say that since using her workouts I’m stronger and in better shape than when I was in my 20s (I’m 32 and I feel amazing, baby!). I always make sure to cool down and stretch after my workouts so I reduce soreness and my chances of injury.
After my workout, I always try to get in a guided meditation. Do I always succeed? Nope. Sometimes I forget or resist being alone with my thoughts. I guess that’s why they call it a meditation practice! I have several go-to guided meditations that I enjoy and have been going back to over and over which I’ll link below. I can say that after my meditation I feel calmer and more focused. Ideally, I would practice for 10-15 minutes but some mornings I only have time for 5 minutes. Even that short period of time makes a big difference!

It’s shower time! There’s not much to say about this other than if you want to check out the products I’ve been using for my morning routine (body and skin edition) you’re gonna need to check out my reels! I have all the details there!
I just started my affirmation practice a few months ago and have been loving it so far. I like to search Pinterest for affirmations for specific areas of my life, money, business, focus, creativity, etc. I write them down and stick them all over my workspace. This way I see them every day and repeat them in my head and out loud.
Another thing that I’ve been loving is the Affirmation Babe Podcast. These are short podcasts that you can listen to for specific things that you want to bring into your life. I like to pick one out that applies to my life and repeat it about 2-3 times so it really gets into my subconscious brain.
I started journaling this year during the lockdown in March as a way to deal with all of the anxiety that 2020 has brought. I’ve dealt with anxiety before but when the pandemic hit it really skyrocketed as I’m sure many of you could relate to!
I downloaded this app called DriveThru that gives you journaling prompts that help you to get out of your head and deal with the emotions that you have been feeling. You choose how long you would like to journal for and it sets a timer up for you. When you are done it asks you to reflect on what you have written and you record how you feel. I have also been following the journaling prompts in my Lavendaire Artist of Life Workbook which has been helpful as well!
Now that I’ve done all the self-care things it’s time for a little makeup. I’m not wearing much makeup these days because I have to have a mask on for work. I would recommend that you stay away from foundations, primers, and even blush you also have to wear a mask all day. The use of a mask in conjunction with your makeup could cause breakouts and that’s the last thing we want to do!
My current routine is mascara, eyeshadow primer, and brow pencil. Yup, I still use an eyeshadow primer even-though I am not wearing eyeshadow. I find that it helps my lids from becoming too greasy throughout the day. Check out a list of my favorite beauty products HERE!
Coffee / Breakfast
I can’t start my day without some coffee and something for breakfast. I know that some people like to intermittent fast but since I workout in the morning, I try to get in some protein and carbs. Plus, I find that when I skip breakfast I get way too hungry and tend to overeat at lunch. You have to find what works for you as everyone’s body and needs are so different. Most mornings I make Kelly LeVeque’s Fab 4 Smoothie recipes, but if I have time I’ll do eggs or oatmeal.
As for my coffee, I am a huge fan of NJ based Rook Coffee Roasters! Since they opened back in 2011 I haven’t had purchased any other coffee! I add a bit of almond/coconut creamer (Califia Farm’s pumpkin spice is my current go-to) and I usually add collagen. I have tried various brands of collagen but I like Vital Proteins and Ancient Nutrition the best (their vanilla is delish for a sweet coffee).
Get out the door!
After all of that, it’s time to get dressed and head out the door. I hope that this gave you some insight as to how to create a morning routine for yourself.
As I said earlier this isn’t a strict routine rather what a perfect morning routine would look like for me if I did all of these things every single day. I try to get everything on my list done as many days of the week that I can but it’s not always possible. And that’s ok! Please be kind to yourself and do what you can to take care. These steps are meant to help you not stress you out! What’s your morning routine? Comment below and share this post with a routines obsessed friend!
