Natural beauty products are better for the earth, safer to use on your skin and have been said to produce better results. However, more often than not, these “natural” products can put a dent in your wallet and it can be difficult to tell which products really are 100% natural. In my attempt to rid my bathroom closet of yucky fake ingredients, I have been making a lot of D.I.Y. beauty treatments. Since I often color my hair, I have been suffering from split ends and some dryness. Instead of turning to products made with unnatural ingredients, I created my own hair mask. I left it on for about 20 minutes before I washed my hair as I usual. The mask left my hair was super soft, shiny and manageable.
Penetrates the scalp and hair follicles, provides moisture and protein.
Penetrates hair, strengthens hair making it less prone to breakage, add shine and moisture
I used this mostly for the amazing smell (Who wants yucky egg smell in their hair?!) but it actually stimulates hair growth when applied to the scalp.
Hair mask for dry hair and split ends
- 2-3 egg yolks depending on length of hair
- 1 Tbsp of Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil
- 2-3 drops of Ylang ylang essential oil (Optional)
Mix the egg yolks, coconut oil and ylang-ylang together and apply to dry hair*. Leave on for about 20-30 minutes.
Avoid applying the mixture to your roots, as it can weigh down your hair and make it look greasy. You can add more or less egg and coconut oil depending on the length of your hair.
* Make sure to thoroughly comb out your hair prior to applying the mixture. The egg makes the mixture sticky and you need to make sure your hair is untangled in order to avoid additional breakage.
