At a recent trip to Ulta, I came across this strange looking hot tool. The Bed Head Textrovert Texturizing Iron.
I had never seen an iron that was rectangular in shape and flat on the sides so naturally, I was intrigued.
On the Ulta website, the description states that this iron will give you a frizz-free lived in texture. It has a tourmaline and ceramic barrel and is clamp free. The barrel is supposed to heat up evenly so that it won’t leave kinks in your hair. You can control the heat up to 400 degrees. It also comes with a full coverage heat protective glove.
I like the design of the iron and it was very easy to work with. I always turn the heat up all the way on my hot tools otherwise, my hair won’t curl. The full coverage glove was also a plus. Many clamp free irons come with a glove that only covers your thumb, index and middle finger doesn’t make sense to me! It just leaves the rest of your hand exposed to the possibility of getting burned!
So what are the results?
The iron did leave my hair looking shiny and frizz free but I’m not really loving the results.
The rectangular texture of the iron left my curls or waves (actually I’m not even sure what they are) looking boxy and rigid.
Here is the result before I pulled apart the waves. Definitely not a look I would like to wear out! The curls have a zigzag shape and just aren’t very pretty.
I was hoping that they would a little softer once I pulled them apart but they just ended up looking like this.
Overall this is not a look that I prefer for my hair. I get that it is supposed to look undone and textured but I think it looks unnatural and kinda weird. I do think that the overall quality of the iron is good, I like the glove and that you can adjust the settings. However, the high quality can not make up for the fact that the waves are not very appealing. Unless you like the rigid look that the iron will give your hair, I say skip it and try out another type of hot tool.
