It’s no secret that CDB oil has been steadily growing in popularity over the past few years. CBD oil or cannabidiol oil is found in everything from medicinal tinctures to chewy gummies, chocolate candy, and even beauty products. Today, you can even find CBD beauty and skincare products at your local cosmetic stores. You can find everything fro CBD body lotions, facial oils, lip balms, and even mascara! In fact, I received (and posted about) Milk Makeup’s CBD infused mascara called Kush Mascara from Influenster last summer!
CBD in Makeup, Skincare, and Bodycare
But why add CBD oil to beauty products? What are the benefits and does it really make any difference? Or is it just all a marketing ploy because the beauty industry is aware of how popular CBD oils are at the moment? Keep reading to find out if CBD beauty and skincare products are worth the hype!
What is CBD Oil?
CBD oil is derived from the flowers and buds of the Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica plant. The Cannabis indica plant also known as the hemp plant contains higher contractions of CBD and very little THC which means that you don’t get the psychoactive effects that you would experience with marijuana. The Cannabis sativa plant, on the other hand, contains more THC than CBD and is not legal in all states. CBD oils are extracted from either plant and remain THC free. Which means that it will not alter your state of mind.
Benefits of CBD
There are numerous benefits of CBD oil. CBD has been found to improve stress, manage pain, and it has anti-inflammatory properties when taken internally. But what effects does CBD oil have on the skin when applied topically? And is it worth shelling out the extra coin for a CBD beauty products?
CBD Infused Beauty Products
I recently purchased this Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil by Herbivore. Here’s what Herbivore Botanicals has to say about cannabis oils on their website “Hemp seed oils are rich in Omega-3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, Gamma Linolenic acids, and Vitamin E, is a non-comedogenic oil that moisturizes the complexion, soothes visible redness and irritation while preventing visible signs of aging. Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil is non-psychoactive and does not contain THC or CBD.” Herbivore Botanicals also claims that ” Cannabis Essential (Hemp Essential) oil is rich in natural Terpenes — the organic chemical compounds that give each strain of Cannabis its unique flavor and aroma — and helps to calm the mind through holistic aromatherapy.”
So do these claims stand to be true? According to Francesca Fusco, MD, a dermatologist based in New York City in an article from Health.com studies show that CBD can help to improve barrier function, hydration, and inflammation. There are even studies that CBD can help to regulate cell growth and stimulate fats in the skin and sebaceous glands. This means healing for skin problems like psoriasis. Which by the way, sounds similar to the way probiotics work in skincare products.
CBD oils are also a powerful antioxidant that can help to protect collagen, skin damage, and stop DNA damage. All of which means younger, smoother, and less wrinkled skin. While all of this sounds amazing don’t’ get too excited yet. There has not been enough research conducted surrounding CBD and the amount needed in a product to make it effective. This means that you might be paying extra for a trendy product and see minimal results. On the flip side, there seems to be no harm in adding CBD beauty products to your routine. There have been no signs of negative side effects.
Be sure to do your research before purchasing products containing CBD. CBD is not regulated and you want to pick out products that are high quality and natural. Keep in mind that there is no minimum amount of CBD that needs to be present in the beauty product for it to be labeled as containing the chemical compound.
My suggestion would be to try beauty products with CBD if you’re curious. Just don’t expect to see dramatic changes in your skin, hair, nails, etc.
Herbavore Botanicals Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil
After using Herbavore Botanicals Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil for about a month I can say that I haven’t seen a change in the quality of my skin. Perhaps the CBD oils work overtime to prevent wrinkles and damage from the elements. But as far as immediate results are concerned, I don’t see a change from my usual skincare routine.
The Deep Moisture Glow Oil has a nice light scent and feels comfortable on the skin when applied. It’s not greasy and absorbs quickly making it a good oil for use during the day before your makeup routine. Plus the bottle looks great sitting on your vanity!
Would I purchase it again? Probably not – I have other oils that work just as well but don’t cost nearly as much.
Have you used beauty products containing CBD? If not would you be willing to shell out the extra cash to try one out?
