Temperatures have been crazy cold this winter all over the U.S. I mean even Texas had some snow! I think that we’ve had snow here in NJ at least every week this month! Since we are currently snowed in again I decided to make a list of things to do on a snow day! Make sure to read until the end because I’m also sharing some cute and cozy sweaters!
Things to do on a Snow Day
On average most people get about 6 hours and 30 minutes of sleep per night. Which is on the low side of the recommended 6-8 hours. So take this opportunity to get a little extra sleep on this oh-so snowy day.
Yes, I know work is exactly what you do not want to do on your day off but wouldn’t you rather take at least some of this day to clean out that closet? Instead of putting it off try tackling a little bit today! Trust me you will feel so much better once your space is clean and organized.
Watch a Movie or T.V. Show and Make Hot Chocolate.
This is the perfect time to binge-watch your favorite T.V. shows or watch those movies you have always wanted to see on Netflix. So curl up with a cup of hot chocolate and popcorn. Make your own hot chocolate, marshmallows and even spice up your popcorn! Or for a grownup version try this Red Wine Hot Chocolate!
You know that ball of yarn that you have in the back of your closet? Break it out and get to knitting those socks that you have been meaning to make. Ok, even if you’re not into knitting you can find fun easy crafts to make online or redecorate/rearrange your house. Or check out this tutorial about how to turn an oversized pair of pants into a chic high-waisted fit!
Bake or Cook a Meal
If you know that a big storm is coming, hit up the supermarket for the ingredients to a new recipe. Soups, cookies, and warm cozy crockpot recipes make for a comforting meal on a cold day.
Have a Game Night
Break out the Monopoly, Uno, Xbox or Charades, whip up a few snacks, maybe a few drinks, and have a game night. Make-up rules like loser buy the winner coffee for a week or will do the laundry for a week. A little friendly competition can be fun! Or do one of the activities in my Valentine’s Date Night post.
Read a Book or Study
If you’re a student take this day off to catch-up or get ahead on some classwork or studying. I’m not saying you can’t have some fun on your day off, but being just a little product will make your life much easier in the long run.
Not a student anymore? Pick up that book you have been meaning to read or purchase one for your Kindle. Most public libraries have an online library where you can download a book to your desktop or tablet for free.
Take a little “me time” and try out some free workouts on YouTube. Being snowed in all day can get a little boring and your energy levels can definitely drop. So getting in a little movement at some point during the day can be just what you need to liven up! Whether you’re looking for a Yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, or a dance workout YouTube has it all for free.
Take a bubble bath, use a body scrub, paint your nails, do a facial and hair mask. Basically, have a spa day at home and pamper yourself. Take the time to do the things you love that you are usually too busy to do!
Catch-up With Friends or Family
Make a phone call or ZOOM with a friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in a while. If you really want to be fancy go old school and spend time handwriting them a letter to send via snail mail. Sometimes taking the time to make something more personal can be even more meaningful than a phone call or a text.
This is one that I really have to work on! My brain is always going and going and going. I have the hardest time clearing my mind. Since you are not going anywhere there is no need to rush the meditation process. So just breathe, and relax. If you need guidance try a meditation app like headspace or a YouTube video.
Clean Up Your Computer
Clean up those files taking up room on your computer, organize your iTunes, and check the health of your computer by running a virus scan. Don’t need a computer clean-up? Surf the web, watch cute animal videos on YouTube or spend the day pinning on Pinterest (I’m guilty of this even on a non-snow day!).
Make a Fire
Make a fire get some marshmallows and make some S’mores. Or just curl up next to it the fire with a good book. Don’t have a fireplace? Make S’mores in the oven and curl up next to a space heater.
It’s snowiiiinggg!! Get outside and make a snowman, find a hill to sled down, and make snow angels. You’re never too old to play in the snow and you might as well enjoy that white fluf that mother nature has bestowed upon you for the day….or week (or however long it lasts).
What do you like to do when you are snowed in or decide to have a lazy day?
