Northside Festival 2017 Brooklyn NY – Part 1

Hello, lovely dazzlers! Today I am sharing with you a quick post on my day trip to Brooklyn over the weekend for the Northside Festival! If you haven’t heard of it before the Northside Festival is a five-day event where you can experience new music, art, and speakers on a range of topics.

Northside Festival in Brooklyn, New York

There are two main events at the Northside Festival from June 7-11. Northside Innovations (June 7-9) is geared toward entrepreneurs and innovators. It includes interviews, panel discussions, talks, workshops and more. Northside Music (June 8-11) and included headliners Dirty Projectors, Kamasi Washington, Miguel, and a punk/emo marathon with Thursday and PUP. There were options to purchase a 5-day badge for all events, a 5-day badge for only music or innovations or you could buy a single ticket for one show.

Since I knew I would only be in Brooklyn for one day I purchased tickets for the Miguel concert featuring BJ the Chicago Kid and Saro!

**BTW if you aren’t using Bands in Town you should definitely get on it! Bands in Town is a really cool app where you can follow your favorite music artists and you will be notified if they are performing in your area. This is how I found out about the festival. As soon I saw that Miguel was going to be performing in Brooklyn I knew I had to scoop them up!

Loving these mink lashes from Kiss and my Makeup Revolution Highlighting Balm Palette

I knew it was going to be a hot day so I decided to wear this light maxi dress I got from Charlotte Russ. I purchased it about a month ago and have been dying to wear it. Isn’t the pattern so much fun? And the sleeves add a little extra something without being too heavy for the warm weather.

I didn’t take any pictures of myself with the dress on in the city because I totally forgot! I guess that’s what happens when you are having fun. You don’t really think about what you are wearing and you just enjoy the moment! If you want to see what this dress looks like on, I am going to be putting out a post of my favorite summer dresses soon so stay tuned!

Back to my day trip to NYC!

The concert was scheduled to start at 6 with the gates opening at 5 but we wanted to leave some time to walk around and enjoy the city since we don’t go into NYC too often.

Our first stop was Bryant Park and the New York Public Library. If you have never been to the New York Public Library you really should check it out. It’s not just a library the building itself is a work of art and there are exhibitions that you can check out.

This exhibition is Latin America in Photographs. Photographers captured their experiences and impressions of Latin America.

I wish we could’ve explored the library more but it was time to get to Brooklyn for shopping and food!

When we got off the subway in Brooklyn we noticed right away that there was a block party going on! I totally forgot that this was a part of the Northside Festival!

The block party included live music, people painting blank walls, food, handmade jewelry sellers and more!

I picked up these cool sunglasses at a little boutique. It doesn’t really go with my patterned dress but they are so cute I had to wear them all day! I love how you can see my BF in the mirrored lens! He looks so confused!

Wanna see more from The Northside Festival? Stay tuned for part 2 coming this Thursday! Follow me on social media or Bloglovin so you don’t miss a post!

Corset Trend Spring Summer 2017

I fist read about the corset trend making a comeback in the Wall Street Journal back in March. The article started off with an interesting observation about how the corset was originally created to exaggerate the female form. This was a symbolic of the second class status of women back in the 16th century. While there is still some controversy surrounding the corset (think waist trainers used by the Kardashians) the popular spring trend is not so much focused on creating a tiny waist as it is on just adding a little something extra to your outfit.

When I think of a corset I usually think about the 16th century corseted dresses that made a woman’s waist appear insanely small and squeezing her tightly all the way up to her bosoms. Not exactly something I would want to wear on a daily basis…or at all!

Instead of the traditional style that covers the entire torso, fashion bloggers and celebs are wearing a thinner corset that is placed around the middle of the waist. This gives the look a more relaxed feel while still defining the waist.

At first, I didn’t like the idea of the corset being worn in this way. It can look sloppy and unflattering if not you’re not careful as to what top you pair it with. After further researching the trend I found some bloggers wearing it in a way that really accented their bodies and outfit in a flattering way.

Here are a few belts that I found Polyvolor that I thought could look stylish paired with the right top.

1. SheIn(sheinside) V Neckline Tartan Belt Detail Top $18 2. Black Velvet Chain Belt $50 3. Icône Corset waist tee $29 4. Rare Khaki Eyelet Lace Up Belt $15 5. Yellow Short Sleeve Belt Layered Dress $30

Do you think I should go for it and purchase one of these belts? Honestly, I am still on the fence with this one. What do you think? Have you tried the trend yet?

5 Off the Shoulder Tops for Under $30

If you have been reading the blog then you know that I love a good off the shoulder top for spring and summer. On a recent post, I talked about how these tops have made a comeback in a huge way and how I like to style them. I was browsing Polyvore and I couldn’t help but check out a few more off the shoulder tops! I think a few of these will be making their way into my closet very soon! The best part is all of these tops are under $30

5 Off the Shoulder Tops Under $30

1. Off-the-shoulder Satin Blouse $29.99 at H&M – I have been crushing on blush pink all spring so I had to add this top to the list! I just love how it is a looser fit and it gives you a flowy feminine vibe.

2. White Black Off the Shoulder Floral Blouse $15 at Make Me Chic – I love this blouse for the cinched waist and the pretty black flowers. The detail at the waist almost makes it look like a peplum top which I usually find very flattering. The structuredness of this top paired along with the black flowers gives it a sophisticated feel. You can dress it up for special occasions or wear with jeans for a more casual affair.

3. Yellow Frilled Pleated Off The Shoulder Top $16 from The Romwe – Have any of you purchased clothes from The Romwe? They have so many cute inexpensive clothes and I am wondering what the quality is like! In any case, I am loving this yell frilly off the shoulder top. The bright color is right up my alley and is perfect for summertime!

4. Tropical Print Off Shoulder Butterfly Sleeve Top Green $23 at Zaful – This top makes me wish I was on a tropical island sitting back eating pineapple with my toes in the sand. This top is so bright and fun it needs to make its way to my closet asap!

5. Yellow Pom Pom Trim Ruffle Off The Shoulder Top $12 at Romwe – How fun is this mustard yellow top? It kinda has a Spanish vibe going on and I could totally see wearing it with a white flowy skirt.

Which tops are your favorite? Have you gotten into the trend yet? Let me know on Instagram or in the comments below!

5 Blush Pink Sneakers for Spring

Spring is in full swing and if you haven’t noticed the blush pink trend has taken over your favorite department stores and boutiques. I seriously can’t walk into a store without seeing pretty ruffly tops and flowy skirts in this pretty soft pink.

Although I love the color pink I am not usually one who regularly wears a lot of pinks. However, I have been drawn to the blush pink trend this season. It’s such a pretty sophisticated way to incorporate pink into your wardrobe.

The softness and subtly of this color makes it so versatile that you can wear it with almost anything. It acts a sort of a neutral that you can pair with many items that you already have in your closet.

If you’re thinking that pink is way too girly for you and not really your thing I would encourage you to check out blush pink sneakers! They are sporty while being feminine at the same time and they will go with everything in your closet. I have yet to pick up a pair of kicks myself but I have been debating between the 5 sneakers below.

1. Kenneth Cole New York Aaron in Rose $140 at Zappos

These are a bit on the pricey side but I love how different they are. The knotted detail on the top is different from anything I have seen and I like the fact that they have a platform.

2. Rizzo Pastel Sneakers at Dolls Kill $50

These sneakers are little darker pink than my other picks but the pearlescent sheen makes them look so cool. I could definitely see myself rocking these all summer long!

3. Women’s Reese Slip on Sneakers by Mossimo Supply Co. at Target $24

If you’re hesitant to try out pink sneakers then these might be the ones you would want to try. You can’t beat the price and the sporty style makes them easy to wear.

4. Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Snake Woven Textile Hi in White/Pink at Zappos $48.75

You can’t go wrong with these classic sneakers with a twist! The snakeskin print gives them a really cool texture and the softness of the pink makes them really wearable.

5. Monki Lace Up Flatform Sneaker in Pink at Asos $46

These flatform sneakers are the lightest shade of pink out of all my picks. Perfect if you are hesitant to try out this trend. They don’t have any detailing on them (like snakeskin print or quilted texture) so they are really easy to wear. I might actually like these the best because I can see myself wearing them all the time.

Will you be trying out this trend? I’m still deciding which ones I like the best although I am leaning toward the Monki Lace Up Flatforms. I could see myself wearing them all of the time. Maybe you could help me out and let me know which of the 5 sneakers you like the best. Comment below!

Trend Alert – Off the Shoulder Tops

Off the shoulder tops and dresses have made a big comeback this spring and I couldn’t be more excited about it. There is something just so subtly sexy about showing a little shoulder. I really love this style and I hope that it isn’t going anywhere.

You can find off the shoulder tops and dresses in all different patterns styles and lengths.

Here are 3 Off the Shoulder Tops I’m Loving

Look #1

For an effortless relaxed look go for a top that has a loose fit and is made with a lighter material. These styles look great with skinny jeans, fitted shorts or a cute slim fitting skirt. Check out this style I’m wearing below from Shein.com.

This top is light and flowy which makes it so comfortable. It is the perfect top to wear in the spring and the summer because it is so light.

Don’t you just love the detail of the crocheted sleeves?

The jeans I’m wearing are from William Rast and are so comfortable! I don’t normally purchase designer jeans but they were on sale over the holiday season and I decided to try them out. Such a great purchase!

Oh and check out these cute peep toe shoes! I got them on sale for 25%off at DSW and I had a grand opening coupon for $15 off! Now that’s a steal!

Look #2

If you want to dress it up a little bit, try an off the shoulder top with lots of big ruffles. This super girly look will definitely grab some attention and has the perfect balance of sexy and sweet.

This floral ruffle top is also from Shein.com. I didn’t get a chance to take pictures of me with it on so I decided to do this flat lay for you! I would pair this top with the same shoes, my William Rast jeans and this cute clutch from World Market. Yes, I said World Market! You can find some really cute and different accessories at a good price.

Oh and this choker that I’m wearing in from the first couple of pictures is also from World Market!

Look #3

The following look is two trend for one deal! It’s an off the shoulder velvet pink top from Marshalls! What do you guys think of the velvet trend? I have been seeing it everywhere this season and it is giving me serious 90s vibes!

I am pairing the top with the same choker that I am wearing in the first picture. I’m all about making the most of the piece that you already have in the closet.

I’m wearing another pair of William Rast skinny jeans and holding a denim jacket I found on clearance at The Gap last summer.

The only problem with this shirt is that the skinny straps do not want to stay up! Maybe I can use my DIY skills to sew them a little shorter so that they stay up. What do you think? Would you give that a try?

Have you tried the off the shoulder look? Which look is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!

Easter Sunday Outfit Idea

Easter Vibes

It’s almost Easter Sunday and I’ve been thinking about what to wear for our family get together. It’s supposed to be 80 degrees on Sunday wich is pretty warm for April! That is why I’m thinking a cute floral dress with flowy sleeves would be the perfect outfit to wear for Easter! Pair it with peep-toe sandals, a simple clutch, and some fun pastel colored sunglasses. If you want to dress it up, even more, throw on a sparkly pendant necklace. Oh and how awesome is that Easter egg iPhone case? Can’t get any more festive than that! Even if you don’t celebrate Easter this is a great spring look to wear for a brunch or maybe a bridal shower.

Primark – Cute Accessories for under $9!

Prmimark Finds
Primark is a retail store that originated in Ireland in 1969. Last year they opened their very first store in America in Boston, MA and this year they opened their first store in my state! All together that makes 5 stores in the United States: Willow Grove, PA, King of Prussia, PA, Danbury, CT, Boston, MA and Freehold, NJ. As soon as I found out about a store opening up relatively near me I took a trip to find out what they are all about.

If I had to compare Primark to any other store in the US I would compare it to H&M. Primmark carries clothing for women, men and children. Unlike H&M however, they have a housewares and shoe section. When I first walked into Primark I had an overwhelming feeling because there was so much to look at and discover!
Primmark3
I was shocked to find that the prices were super low! I’m talking shirts for under $10 and dress pants that range from $8 to $15. Now I’m not saying that everything is going to be high quality or as good a fit as some high end brands, but the $8 dress pants I bought aren’t too bad. Since I don’t wear black dress pants too often, I figured I had nothing to lose by trying out an inexpensive brand. They look good, fit good and make my wallet happy!
Primmark2

Here are some other finds that I picked up while shopping at Primark:
  • Grey Jersey Cap $3.98
  • Silver Snake Hoop Earrings $1.50
  • Marshmallow Small Jar Candle $1.00
  • Gold Pearl Front/Back Earrings $2.50
  • Set of 6 Rose Gold Bracelets $3.50
  • Silver and Rose Gold Ring Necklace $6.00
  • Black Wide Leg Dress Pants $8.00 (Not Pictured)
Since I didn’t have enough time to try on clothes I stuck with just getting a few accessories. My favorite purchases are the hat and the pearl earrings. I have been really into hats lately especially since I have been skipping extra days in between washing to preserve the funky colors in my hair. I plan on going back soon to pick out a few cute outfits so I can test out the quality. When that happens I will be sure to share it with you! Have you been to a Primark store? If so what do you think? Comment below.

How to Dress Up the Basic T-Shirt

White Tee Blurry
How many time have you opened your closet in the morning and thought “I have nothing to wear!”? We’ve all been there before, staring at dozens of options feeling like nothing is good enough. Sometimes, I think the problem is that we have too much to choose from. Too many fancy tops, too many patterned blouses and bottoms that don’t go together. We spend (or at least I do!) too much money on trendy pieces and not enough on high quality basics that will last for years. My goal for the rest of this year is to only purchase simple high quality pieces that can be worn often and with the rest of my wardrobe.

My first goal was to fill my closet with a few high quality tee-shirts in black, white, gray and navy shades. My requirement was that all of the shirts must be $30 or less. Find out where I purchased my favorite shirts from and if I met that goal here. Today, I am taking a few of those basic tees, dressing them up, dressing them down, and showing you a few different ways I like to take my tees from basic to super fancy…OK maybe not super fancy, but you know what I mean.

Tuck it into a maxi skirt

Make a summer maxi skirt look effortless by tucking in a crew neck tee-shirt. I this cute skirt from H&M with Jessica Simpson gladiator sandals and a chunky necklace that I thrifted for a dazzling look. If you prefer a more understated look you could wear a pair of flat sandals and add some dainty jewelry.

Throw on a simple tee with a circle skirt
This look is perfect for a dinner date, brunch or work. I found this cute circle skirt on the clearance rack for $11 at Kohls and the strappy nude heals (Every girl should own a pair of nude sandals) are from Nine West. I am wearing the same statement necklace that I wore with my maxi skirt. It’s all about making the most of the pieces you already own.

Embellished High Waisted Shorts
Let the shorts be the star of the show here by pairing a loose fitting box tee with your embellished shorts. Tucking in my shirt allows me to show off the embellishments and gives the outfit a better shape. I am wearing a pair of gladiator lace-up sandals, which work nicely with the length of the shorts. To top it off, I threw on a straw fedora hat (due to a bad hair day…I mean, I’m being super stylish) with a simple chain necklace.

Wardrobe Must Haves: The Basic Cotton Tee-Shirt

colored-t-shirts-3-1426848
Sparkles, vibrant colors, lace, and floral designs are some of my favorite details in an article of clothing. Whether it’s a ruffled off the shoulder top or an amazing floral top, I can never seem to resist a piece of clothing with intricate and vibrant designs. The problem is, that when I decide I want to highlight a pair of patterned pants or a flashy accessory, I don’t have simple basics to go with them! That’s why it is so important to own multiple tee-shirts, several pairs of paints, leggings, shoes and sneakers in simple styles and colors. It was time for me to make a change and start searching for some high quality wardrobe essentials. I decided that the easiest item of clothing to start with was the basic tee.

I usually pick up my basic tees from stores like Forever 21 for about $5 (or less!) but, they never last long and I end up tossing them in the Goodwill pile within a few months. This time around, I am going to venture out and make invest in high quality shirts. Since I don’t want to drain my pocket, I am only going to be considering shirts that cost less than $25. This girl is on a budget, I mean, how am I to fuel my makeup addiction if I am spending all my money on tee-shirts?

When shopping for a basic tee shirt, I recommend finding a style that you feel most comfortable in and you will get the most use out of. My favorite styles are v-necks, crew necks and box tees. I am going to be sticking to white, black, and navy colors because they will go with everything in my closet. Although, you could swap out the navy for gray or brown depending on your wardrobe and personal preference. I recommend looking through your current wardrobe and deciding what you will be wearing your new shirts with and purchasing what you think you will use the most. If you are going to be wearing mostly skinny jeans or leggings you might want to go with a looser fitting tee or a tunic style. If you have a lot of items of clothing where you want to tuck your shirt in, you might want to go with a more fitted style.

Here are a few stores that I have decided to try out in my search of the perfect tee.

Everlane
At Everlane.com you will find a ton of great basic pieces for reasonable prices. No embellishments, sparkles or lacy items here, which means that they really focus on quality and fit.I ordered the cotton V  for $15 in true black and the cotton U-neck in navy for $18. You get free shipping on your first order and free exchanges. These shirts are buttery soft and both the V and U- neck have a relaxed fit, so they are super comfortable. I received them about six months ago and they are still lookin’ good.

Uniqlo
I am lucky enough to have a brand new Uniqlo at my local mall. They have reasonable prices and the sales are awesome. If you don’t have access to the store you can always order online. Be sure to sign up for the mailing list, as they will send you online offers that you won’t find in stores.

I purchased the modal linen short sleeve boxy t-shirt in white for $9.90, Supima cotton crew neck short sleeve tee in white for $14.90 and the Supima cotton crew neck in purple for $14.90. OK, so purple is not a basic color, but, it’s my favorite color and I just couldn’t resist!

Victoria’s Secret
I figured I would try out some Victoria’s Secret basic tees, since I was already placing an order with goodies from their Semi-annual sale. You can’t go wrong paying just $9.99 and 15.99 for a tee-shirt, so I picked out a v-neck (not pictured) and crew neck in black. Most of the clothes at Victoria’s Secret run big, so I ordered a size smaller than I usually would, which ended up fitting nicely. These tees have a nice soft feel and are more fitted than the tees from Uniqlo and Everlane.
