Last week I posted about how important it is to create a nighttime routine. Well, having a morning routine can be just as important. Creating a morning routine will help you to get your day started on a positive note! I love my morning routine because it helps me to be more focused and productive throughout the day. Here are 9 ways to get your day started with energy and vitality
The very first thing I do in the mornings is brush my teeth and splash my face with cold water. If I am not working out in the morning, I will also do some dry brushing (so good for your skin and circulation) and take a shower. If you have never heard of dry brushing check out this post by Wellness Mama.
Make the Bed
I always try to make my bed as soon as possible. Just as unmaking the bed at nighttime signals that it is time to rest, making the bed in the morning signals that it is time to wake up and get energized!
Drink a cold glass of Lemon Water
Starting the day with a glass of water gets the digestive system moving and ensures that you are hydrated throughout the day. Staying hydrated means that you will have more energy throughout the day and it will also fight hunger.
I try to get some kind of activity in before my day starts. An hour workout before my day starts usually does the trick, but sometimes that is just not possible. I might do a short morning yoga video or go for a walk around the block on a nice day instead. Getting your body moving first thing in the morning sets a great tone for the rest of the day and will get those energy levels up
I have been trying to take time every day to meditate. Morning is usually the best time for me to meditate because there are no distractions. I will admit that I am terrible at remembering to meditate, but I am trying and that is what counts right? Rebekah Borucki on YouTube has some great meditations for beginners.
After my workout, I will shower, get dressed and do my hair and make-up. On days that I am not working, I will still put on a little mascara and blush. Looking put together on my days off, helps me to stay productive with things that I may need to accomplish at home.
Breakfast/Coffee or Tea
I never ever, ever, ever skip breakfast! I need something to eat in the morning or I will be cranky all day. Not only that, but it gives me fuel for the rest of the day. I always make sure to include some protein in the morning like eggs or Greek yogurt. I also try to include a little fruit and some oatmeal or whole wheat toast.
Make a List
Although it doesn’t always happen, I try to organize my thoughts on paper. I like to make a list of what needs to be accomplished from most urgent to the least.
Start the Day
I usually blast some tunes on the way to work. If I’m home I will get working on my to-do list right away.
