ISH Cosmetics Dynamic Duo – A FabFitFun Add-On

A few weeks ago I posted about my spring FabFitFun box and all of the goodies that came in my box. I briefly mentioned that I choose a few add-on products. One of those products was the ISH Cosmetics Party in Pink/Rustie Duo. This mini kit came with two products a Shadow Stick and Shimmy Shadow.

I’m also featuring the RealHer lip kit in Pink I received from the spring FabFitFun box because I thought pretty pale pink lips would look great with the ISH Cosmetics products that I added-on! Don’t you love the empowering phrases that come on the RealHer packaging?

Women Rule the World? Oh, yea!

While we are talking about RealHer products I might as well mention that they are 100% free of parabens, synthetic fragrances, gluten, and phthalates. Not only that but 20% of the profits go to the American Association of University Women (AAUW). I love finding products that give to a good cause. If you would like more information on how they give back click here.

Back to ISH Cosmetics (which by the way stands for I’m Smokin Hot!) here I am wearing only the Shadow Stick on my eyes.

ISH Shadow Stick in Party in Rustie

I am really loving the color and how easy the shadow is to apply. I just directly applied it on my lid without any primer. It makes for a quick but pretty eyeshadow look.

While I like the color and the easy application of the shadow stick by the end of the day it started to crease. Which I suppose is to be expected with most cream shadows. It’s not a huge problem because I was able to go most of the day with my makeup looking fresh but it’s something to be aware of if you have oily lids.

ISH Shimmy Shadow in Party in Pink

Onto the next! How gorgeous is that golden pinky shimmer? I absolutely love this product! ISH Shimmy Shadows will really make your eyes pop. When applying this product I suggest that you dab the shadow onto your lids so that you don’t get too much fallout. It can get messy if you’re not careful!

The good thing about this product is that you can build up the shimmer. So if you only want a little shimmer use a brush to dab sparingly. If you want intense shimmer for a night out keep laying on the product with a heavy hand!

This picture above was taken outside in the sun. I was attempting to capture just how shimmery it is but it really doesn’t do it justice! It looks so much shimmery in person!

I’m also wearing ISH Gold Bomb on my cheekbones and the inner corners of my eyes. This highlighter is very subtle and infused with coconut and sunflower seed oils. It gives you just enough shine so you can wear it all day or night!

While I enjoyed wearing the ISH Shadow Stick I can’t get past how amazing the Shimmy Shadow is! It gives you that glittery shimmery shine without looking overdone. Shimmy Shadows are available in four more colors including a silvery gray color that looks amazing. What do you think? Have you ever tried ISH cosmetics or RealHer cosmetics? Do you have any favorite glitter or shimmer products? If so let me know in the comments!

My Favorite Things: Jenna Hipp Nail Polish

Jenna Hipp Nail Polish

One of my favorite year-round beauty staples in is a bright nail polish. Most people stick to darker colors in the fall and winter, but I love to rock bright nail polish all year long!

I was super excited when I came across this adorable mini nail polish set at Costco by Jenna Hipp! I couldn’t resist buying them because they were on sale for only $7! So much for sticking to my grocery list!

I just adore the bright juicy colors that they come in.

It even comes with a minty green color that I have been looking for everywhere!!

Besides the awesome color selection, I love the fact that they are eco-friendly and do not contain any strange chemicals!!
I absolutely love these Jenna Hipp nail polishes! They dry quick and last about a week, with minimal chipping, which is great for me because my hands are constantly in water when I am at work. They also had another set of darker and more neutral colored polishes, which I may have to go back to purchase!

Bed Head Textrovert Texturizing Iron Review

DSC_0434At a recent trip to Ulta, I came across this strange looking hot tool. The Bed Head Textrovert Texturizing Iron.

I had never seen an iron that was rectangular in shape and flat on the sides so naturally, I was intrigued.

On the Ulta website, the description states that this iron will give you a frizz-free lived in texture. It has a tourmaline and ceramic barrel and is clamp free. The barrel is supposed to heat up evenly so that it won’t leave kinks in your hair. You can control the heat up to 400 degrees. It also comes with a full coverage heat protective glove.

I like the design of the iron and it was very easy to work with. I always turn the heat up all the way on my hot tools otherwise, my hair won’t curl. The full coverage glove was also a plus. Many clamp free irons come with a glove that only covers your thumb, index and middle finger doesn’t make sense to me! It just leaves the rest of your hand exposed to the possibility of getting burned!

So what are the results?

The iron did leave my hair looking shiny and frizz free but I’m not really loving the results.

The rectangular texture of the iron left my curls or waves (actually I’m not even sure what they are) looking boxy and rigid.

Here is the result before I pulled apart the waves. Definitely not a look I would like to wear out! The curls have a zigzag shape and just aren’t very pretty.

I was hoping that they would a little softer once I pulled them apart but they just ended up looking like this.

Overall this is not a look that I prefer for my hair. I get that it is supposed to look undone and textured but I think it looks unnatural and kinda weird. I do think that the overall quality of the iron is good, I like the glove and that you can adjust the settings. However, the high quality can not make up for the fact that the waves are not very appealing. Unless you like the rigid look that the iron will give your hair, I say skip it and try out another type of hot tool.

Eeeh! Not a fan of this hair!

Review: Makeup Revolution Highlighters and Strobing Powders

Hey, there lovely dazzlers! If you haven’t noticed recently I have been on a Makeup Revolution kick! I can’t stop trying out the different products that they offer! I’ve was impressed with the quality and pigmentation of their shadow palettes and the strobing balm palette.
Today we are taking a look at some of the baked and strobe highlighters. They cost about $6 each and occasionally go on sale at Ulta. I purchased these when they were on sale for buy two get one free.

Vivid Baked Highlighters

Peach Lights

Peach Lights is a natural looking highlight that you can wear every day without looking like you’re going to hit up the club. This is the least pigmented of the four that I purchased but it still gives you a nice glow. It’s my least favorite of the four because I feel like it doesn’t really show up very well on my skin tone. I’m thinking it would look great on someone with a fairer skin tone. Personally, I like a little bit more drama in my highlighter! I think I will end up using this during the work week and for days I am going for a more natural look.

Here is a picture from my St. Patty’s Day post and I am actually wearing Peach Lights on my cheek bone and inner corners of my eyes.

Don’t mind the band-aid I was super clumsy and sliced my finger while cooking!! Eeek!

Rosegold Lights

Rosegold Lights is very pigmented and shimmery shade of pink. I had to purchase this one because I found it quite unusual for a highlighter to come in such a pigmented rosy color. This highlighter does have much more impact when applied and looks really pretty on the inner corners of your eyes. I don’t know if I’m completely sold on rosy pink highlighter. I feel like it’s more of a shimmery blush than anything else. Regardless, it is still a very beautiful shade and I may just end up wearing it as a blush than an actual highlighter.

Strobe Highlighter

Gold Addict

Gold Addict has to be my favorite of all the highlighters I purchased. The pigment is amazing and it is quite shimmery. I am in love with the way that it shows up on my skin and it photographs quite lovely. It is going to look amazing in the summertime with a tan and some bronzy eyeshadow to top it off. This one makes me feel like a glowy goddess! I am predicting that this is going to be my go-to highlighter in the summertime and for special occasions.

The look below is from my Makeup Revolution Palette Review post!

Holographic Lights

Holographic Lights is not nearly as intense as Gold Addict but it still will give you a lovely glow. It is actually a bit similar to the Ultra Strobe Palette in that it has a pretty iridescent/holographic appearance to it. It will give you more of a glowy unicorn look rather than glowy golden summertime goddess. I would wear this on a night out as the camera does pick up the shimmer quite nicely but I also wouldn’t be afraid to wear it during the day.

In the picture below I have the rosegold highlighter on the left side of my face and the gold strobing powder on the right side. I also put a bit on the inner corners of my eyes.

5 Beauty Products I’m Loving in March

Lately, I have been experimenting with skincare products. I have been especially into products that contain more natural ingredients. Today, I have 5 beauty products that are all cruelty-free and contain mostly natural ingredients. It has been so much fun experimenting with different products and these are the 5 that I have been enjoying the most!

5 Beauty Products I’m Loving in March!

Skinfood Egg White Peel Off Pack $7

I normally don’t use pore strips but I came across SkinFood a Korean beauty brand at Ulta a few weeks ago and couldn’t resist trying it out. I have been wanting to try out some K-beauty brands and I figured that this would be a good start. This pack not only came with strips for your nose but also with triangular shaped strips for the forehead and chin area. You leave them on for about 10 minutes and pull them off gently just as you would with Bore pore strips. How do they compare you ask? I think they are even better! Here is the proof! Get ready it’s pretty gross.
Sorry! I know it’s not a pretty sight. Look at all that gunk! I definitely don’t want that sitting in my pores. I don’t really know how natural the SkinFood line is although on their website they claim that they “believe in natural and wholesome, even if it takes a little longer.”  This is something that I am going to be researching as I would like to purchase some more of their products but only if they are as natural as they claim to be.

Pacifica Cactus and Kale Oil-Free Stress Recovery Lotion $14.00

I have been using this lotion as extra moisturization after applying rosehip oil to my face at night. Sometimes you just need a little more moisture in the winter and layering the two products has been such a big help. While the lotion itself is not very thick or heavy it works for dry skin if you are also wearing a face oil. If dry skin is not your problem then this product would work perfectly fine used alone. In the summertime, I’ll probably use this moisturizer alone because it is so light and I don’t need nearly as much hydration.

Pacifica Glow Baby Youth Salvation Walnut Scrub $14.00

This is another exfoliating product that I have been using on occasion. Pacifica products have been a favorite lately and this walnut scrub is no exception. It is formulated without parabens, petroleum, parabens and phthalates and it is also a vegan product. The scrub is effective without being harsh on your skin and it has a great nutty fresh smell.

O.R.G Skincare Mineral Peel Face $44.00

I received this mineral peel in my winter FabFitFun box and have been using about once a week ever since. What makes this product unique is that it is a spray on exfoliant. The natural enzymes soften dead skin and makeup leaving skin feeling smooth and clean. My favorite thing about this product is how easy it is to use. All you have to do is spray a thin layer on your face, wait 3 seconds and gently massage your skin. Any dry skin or impurities that you may have will start to ball up and flake off your face. Once you are don massaging your face all you have to do is rinse with warm water and apply your moisturizer as usual. I found this product to be especially useful because my skin tends to get very dry and flaky in the winter. It works to keep the dry flakes off of my skin making foundation application smoother.

Lypsyl Yummy Sticks Lip Balm $1.00 Each

I discovered these cute little lip balms while I was out grocery shopping. They were only $1.00 each and are made only with Shea Butter, Hydrogenated Coconut Oil, Petrolatum and Mineral Oil. The formula does not contain parabens and is also vegan. Since they were so inexpensive I purchased them in all three flavors, Sweet Mint & Basil, Passion Fruit & Chocolate and Sea Salt & Caramel. So far I am loving how they smell and how they keep my lips moisturized!

Review: Makeup Revolution Eye Shadow and Strobing Palette

Makeup revolution just became available at my local Ulta store and I couldn’t be more thrilled! I noticed the new section as I walked in and was certainly intrigued. If you have never heard of Makeup Revolution they are a company from London that launched in 2014. The prices are amazing (highlighter for $5.95? Yes Please!) and they are cruelty-free!

Makeup Revolution has a nice selection of lip colors, highlighters, and blushes but what really caught my eye were all of the eyeshadow palettes. The palettes are inexpensive running anywhere from $7-$15. To top it off Ulta was having a buy two get one free sale. I had just hit the beauty junkies jackpot!

Ultra eye Contour Light and Shade

This palette is perfect for everyday use yet is pigmented enough to create a “going out” look. All 12 of the colors are matte and will flatter every skin tone.
This is a great palette because it blends easily and if I decide to go out on the town I can use some of the darker colors to create a smokey look. It is also a nice palette to use for when you want to wear a bold lip but you want to balance it out with a neutral eye.

Ultra eyeshadows in Flawless 2

The Flawless 2 palette comes with 32 matte and shimmer shadows. This is a fun palette because you have the option of keeping it natural or experimenting with different blue or red based colors.
Here I am wearing a blend of these four rusty colors – Sound, Expert, Impeccable, and Official. I love that I didn’t have to spend very much money on unique eyeshadow colors.

The shadows in this set are very blendable and highly pigmented. What you see is what you get! My only complaint is that they do release a bit of powder when you stroke the brush on the palette, however, it’s not a huge problem just blow off the excess powder.

Ultra Strobe Balm Palette

The Makeup Revolution Ultra Strobe Balm Palette is the product that initially caught my eye when I noticed the Makeup Revolution section at Ulta. This palette comes with 8 iridescent highlighting balms. They look super intense in the palette but when you apply them they end up looking gorgeously glowy!
Here I am wearing the balm on my upper cheekbones, inner corner of my eyes, cupid’s bow and middle of my lips.
I love the variety of the balms and how they make you look dewy without feeling heavy or caked on! The wear is pretty good too I didn’t need to touch up at all.
Overall I am very impressed with the quality and pigment of Makeup Revolution products. I think that their shadows and highlighters rival the higher end products. If I would have come across their selection of highlighter and strobing products I may have not even purchased my Tarte Pro Highlight/Contour palette! (Although I still really love that palette).

The Eyes Have It – St. Patty’s Day Makeup Look

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! I thought I would make a quick post about the eye look that I am wearing today to celebrate the holiday!

I used the Urban Decay Electric Palette and Victorias Secret Silky Eye Shadow in Risk to create this look and kept the rest of my makeup simple so the eyes really stand out. The great thing about green eyeshadow is that it really does look great on a variety of skin tones. It’s all about finding the right shade for you. Not only that but green can actually be very wearable if you just keep the application to the lids.

There you have it! I hope you enjoyed this quick post and that it inspires you to rock the green all year round! What are you up to for St. Patty’s Day? Are you rockin green eyeshadow? Or are you super daring and going for a green lip like this or this instead? Let me know in the comments or on social media!

Grow Gorgeous Hair Density Serum Review

Do find yourself discovering strands of hair all over your house and even your workplace? Over the past couple of years, I have felt like I was shedding more than a British Longhair. I asked my hairdresser about it and she said that it is normal for the amount of fallout to change throughout the years. Also, since I don’t wash my hair every day the hair that would normally fall out in the shower is leaving a trail around the house.
Of course, if you think that you’re losing more hair due to health problems or you can visibly see bald spots you should check with a doctor. Since I wasn’t experiencing any of those problems and I eat healthy most of the time I decided to try out a hair growth serum.
I came across Grow Gorgeous Hair Growth Serum on the Ulta website back in November. It was on sale for $29.99 which is cheaper than purchasing it from their website and I had an Ulta coupon for 20% off. What did I have to lose?

Apply 20 drops a day to the scalp in the morning or evening.

How does it work?

You apply 20 drops of serum to your scalp every morning or evening and rub it in thoroughly. I made it a part of my nightly routine taking the opportunity to give myself a nice scalp massage. Did you know that massaging your scalp is actually good for you and stimulates hair growth? Don’t worry if you feel a slight tingle when you apply the serum to your scalp. It is normal and is just the formula working into your hair follicles.

Did it work?

After using this product for about 2 months I started to notice a difference in the amount of fallout I had been experiencing. My hair still does fall out but not nearly as much. I am no longer finding hair at my workplace and even my mother noticed less hair around the house.

Did you notice faster hair growth?

That one is difficult to say. I got a haircut shortly after starting the treatment and my hair grows at a fast rate anyway.

Did it make your hair thicker?

I would assume that since less hair is falling out that my hair is thicker but it’s not really visibly noticeable. I naturally have a lot of hair so the goal was never to get thicker hair. I just wanted to experience less fallout.
I whip my hair back and forth! Yeah, I know that reference is so 2010! Just playing around with my hair and camera. Oh how I miss my colorful peek-a-boo highlights.

How long does the bottle last?

It’s now March and I am down to the very last few drops. I will admit I have skipped a few nights either due to laziness or forgetfulness.

How long does it smell?

There are some complaints on other blogs about the smell of the product but I thought it was quite pleasant. I also love the smell of tea tree oil so maybe I’m not the best person to ask.

Is it tested on animals?

According to their website, they do not test on animals. The formula is also gluten free and vegan (be careful not all of their products are vegan).

Will you be repurchasing?

Yes! I just ordered another bottle and will continue to use it for a few more months. I am assuming that once you stop using the product your hair will go back to falling out at the rate that it once did. But for me, it was an effective solution. This time I will try using it every other night and see what happens. I am hoping that I will still have the same results by using it every other night.

If you are experiencing hair loss or simply want thicker hair I would recommend giving this product a try. It’s not overly expensive and it is really easy to use. I am considering trying out some of their other shampoos or treatments. If you would like to see a review on that let me know in the comments and I will start trying them out!

DIY Nail Strengthener with Essential Oils

Super Simple DIY Nail Strengthener with Essential Oils

Trade in your traditional nail treatment for an easy DIY nail

strengthener.

Want strong and pretty nails? You need to take good care of them!
Do you struggle with weak and nails that split and peel? Weak nails have been something I have struggled with my entire life! I have tried many different nail strengthening treatments but I have found that they only work over a short period of time. After a while, my nails get used to the treatment and start peeling again. Not only are the results with nail polish strengtheners temporary but once you stop using the treatment your nails will go right back to splitting and peeling. So why not try a DIY nail strengthener with essential oils?
Healthy fats aid in strengthening nails
While I have read that consuming foods with omega fatty acids and having plenty of protein can promote strong nails and nail growth I have yet to see results. I do eat have a pretty healthy diet and I definitely get fats from avocados, salmon and nut butter. What is a girl to do?

I decided to see what I could find on the internet about making an all natural nail strengthener. I found that there are several oils and essential oils that can aid in nail strength and growth. Many of the DIY recipes called for a large number of essential oils but I didn’t really want to spend too much money on different types of essential oils. I already had lavender and almond oil, so I just purchased Myrrh essential oil to see if that would help.
Lavender Oil– Disinfects the skin, has moisturizing properties, increases circulation, and has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
Myrrh – Prevents dryness, thinning, and breakage of the nails. It also has antioxidant and antifungal properties.
Almond Oil– Vitamin E, proteins, fatty acids, zinc, potassium and fatty acids. It is also an anti-inflammatory, and high in antioxidants.

All I did was fill this little dropper bottle almost up to the top with sweet almond oil. I added about 10 drops each of Myrrh and lavender oil. Which seems to be a bit more than the recipes I have come across on the internet but the Myrrh and lavender oils that I had were already diluted so I wanted to make sure that I added enough to the mixture.
Bottle for my DIY nail oils
And that’s it! I am going to be using this every night before I go to bed and I will let you know the results in a few months. Keep in mind my goal is not to necessarily get longer nails (they get in the way when I play piano and guitar) but to have healthier looking nails that don’t peel!
My weak and peeling nails
There are many other oils that you can use to make a nail strengthener. These just happen to be the ones that are most accessible to me at the time. If they don’t work I will definitely be trying out some different oils but for now, I am going to give this a shot.
Here are a few sites with some more nail strengthener ideas

NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Cream

NYX Cosmic Metals

A review of the super metallic lip creams!

I have been eyeing the NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Creams for the past few months trying to decide if I should try out metallic lips. Bright blues, purples and bronzy browns, these colors looked more like they were meant for the eyes rather than the lips!
NYX Cosmic Metals in Speed of Light

I purchased two colors Speed of Light and Galatic. Speed of Light is a really pretty bronzey pink color that I normally wear on my eyes. I never thought to wear such a color on my lips but I was actually surprised at how pretty it looked! I actually loved the metallic look and thought that this color was subtle enough for every day. It’s a little pop of shine when you feel like being a little different!

NYX Cosmic Metals in Speed of Light
While Speed of Light is pretty subtle, Galatic is outta this world (see what I did there? Galatic, outta this world……like outer space. Oh well I tried lol). Galatic is a crazy blue based gray that is sure to catch anyone’s attention. While it is definitely not an everyday look, I was kinda feelin the bold color. I would try this color for a night out on the town for sure!
NYX Cosmic Metals in Galactic
While NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Creams have really great pigment and shine there are some downsides to the product. One being that it is super thick! I mean I could really feel the product on my lips and after a while, I started to see the product build up on the sides of my mouth! Another is that they are not long lasting and the rub off easily. Which is a shame because they would be amazing to wear on New Year’s Eve but with eating and drinking it would be inconvenient to keep reapplying your lip color all night. And if you’re planning on smooching your bae at midnight don’t even think about it unless they are totally ok with wearing your lips color all over their face for the rest of night.
Feeling daring? Rock this lip on New Year’s Eve.

Overall if you are really wanting to try out a metallic lip color I would say give it a go! They are only $7.50 a pop and are really fun to experiment with. Although I love the way the colors look, I don’t see myself purchasing any more of these lip creams. The stickiness and thickness are totally a turn-off. I’m hoping that they will reformulate the product so it isn’t so goopy. I am definitely going to have to find another brand that sells metallic lipsticks that aren’t so messy.
Have you tried a metallic lip? If so what brand did you try and how did you like it? Let me know in the comments below.
